Edmonton
Ringette Club History
The Edmonton Ringette Club (ERC) was
conceived during a bottle drive in early spring of 1984. A
society was formed in June 1984 with the founders being Mary Orr,
Judy Graham, Richard Sherko, Roy Schneider, and Reg Wood. The ERC
went on to raise funds through bingos, casinos, and lottery
tickets. The intent was to raise the needed funds to supply the
competitive teams with extra ice time and the ability to attend
more tournaments.
The ERC Belle team, coached by Reg Wood, George Buzak, and Dianne
Hogg, won Albertas first gold medal at the Canadian
National Ringette Championships in Winnipeg in 1988.The medals
have certainly not stopped there. The ERC has been consistent in
its program to promote and produce some of the best ringette
players at the provincial, national, and world championship
level.
The ERC hosted an AA level tournament in 1986 and it
has continued on as an annual event, becoming the Wood Tournament
in 1990. The ERC hosted the Canadian National Ringette
Championships in 1998 and has recently been successful in its bid
to host the World Ringette Championships in 2002.
The first-ever Lifetime Memberships were awarded in April 1995 to
Joan and Reg Wood for their years of involvement and dedication
to the sport of ringette.
